Save the Dogs! Kill the Babies! and the Michael Vick Saga

  • I am confused about the whole Michael Vick thing. I in no way condone the fighting or killing of dogs, but does it warrant an 18 month prison sentence? Our laws protect and our media exalts doctors and people who kill babies in the mother's wombs. But those same prosecutors and commentators absolutely crucify someone who is cruel or inhumane to animals. I don't get it. Maybe their bumper sticker should read: Kill the babies, save the dogs! You tell me, what can you say of a society that places higher value on the life of a dog than a human being? And again, the same people who are crying out to "protect the rights" of a woman to end the life of the baby in her womb are the same ones who are demanding Vick be put away forever for ending the life of a dog. I have read how doctors dismember, burn alive, and suck the brains and body parts of babies right out of a womwan's womb. As terrible as the accounts were of Vick's destruction of his dogs, it didn't sound half as gruesome as how the abortionists decimate and destroy those tiny, defenseless babies made in the image of God.
  • And now that Vick is out of jail, the self-righteous media and animal worshippers are still not satisfied. One said this week on cable television he thought Vick deserved to be incarcerated 10 years. Please! This young man was convicted, sent to prison, and he served his time--in full. He has paid his debt to society. Does he not deserve a second chance? Does he not deserve an opportunity to re-enter society and try to re-establish and rebuild his life? He is totally bankrupt as a result of all this, his reputation is destroyed, and he will probably never get to earn another penny of endorsements. But the judgmental, unloving liberals want even more blood! Many commentators don't want to allow Vick back into the NFL because he will earn a lot of money and that would some way be "rewarding" his sins. They said "let him work at Denny's" instead!
  • I do hope Michael Vick has had a change of heart. I pray he has grown up and matured and will not break laws or make stupid mistakes any more. But even if doesn't have ANY remorse or repent of ANY of his sins, he still has the full, legal right to resume his life, to pursue the career of his choice, and to speak out for or against any cause he wants. He is free. No, I don't particularly like Vick and I certainly don't respect him, but he too is made in the image of God, he too is a sinner like all of us, he too has the right to pursue and experience reconciliation with God, with others, and with society. Like Jesus told the religious leaders who picked up rocks to throw at the adulterous woman: "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." Seems like some folks may need to re-read their Bibles, look into thier own sinful hearts, and extend the same mercy and grace to others the Lord gives to us...

I find a few of the comments that have been posted as upsetting.

"But the judgmental, unloving liberals want even more blood! "
This sentence in itself is judgmental and unloving. There are a lot of liberal Christians, I myself am one. STOP saying this like this, they just cause hurt to people who love Jesus. Statements like this is just a way to divide Christians, when we need unity.

Also NOT ALL liberals are Pro-choice. I myself am prolife. There are a lot of issues, and I do not see how you can link all of these issues together. Yes, I understand some people are more concerned about animals than about babies and that is disturbing. But do not attack them for their concern about animals. Micheal Vick and abortions are not connected, instead they are completely separate issues. When addressing these issues, I think it would be best and most loving to focus on THE ISSUES, instead of attacking your opposition's person and morality.

Jesus was not a politician. He was God's son and full of love. As God's children, however different we may be WE NEED TO LOVE EACH OTHER. Attacking someone does NOT show Jesus to them. If you think that their views are not Biblically sound, the best way to try to get them to see your way is by being LOVING to them, and not by attacking them.

I often do not feel loved by people who are my brothers and sisters in Christ after they find out that I am a liberal Christian. A lot of people make false accusations, and attack my character when finding this out. I think that the way liberal/conservative Christians interact with each other is a HUGE problem that needs to be addressed.
